How to export
How to export your data from MyFitnessPal
You need Premium or Premium+. MyFitnessPal's data export is a paid feature. Free accounts can print a report or share their diary with a trainer, doctor or nutritionist, but can't download the files.
Request the export from the app or the website. You choose the date range; you can't choose which data is included.
iPhone app
- Open the MyFitnessPal app.
- Tap the More menu. If you don't have one, tap your profile icon in the upper right corner instead.
- Select Nutrition, then tap Export in the upper right corner.
- Tap Date Range and choose the dates you want.
- Tap Export My Information.
Android app
- Open the MyFitnessPal app and tap the More menu.
- Go to the Progress or Nutrition page.
- Tap the Export icon in the upper right corner (a page with a folded corner).
- Confirm your email address and choose your date range.
- Tap Export.
Website
- Log in to the MyFitnessPal website.
- Click Reports.
- Click Export on the right side of the screen.
- Select your date range.
- Click Export.
MyFitnessPal then emails a single ZIP file to the address on your account. Open the email and click Download Files; MyFitnessPal recommends doing this on a computer. Drop that ZIP into the viewer above, no unzipping needed.
Steps from MyFitnessPal's help center, checked . MyFitnessPal moves menus from time to time, so the names may differ slightly in your version of the app.
The export
What's in a MyFitnessPal export?
Every export has three CSV files, according to MyFitnessPal's help center:
- Nutrition: calories, macronutrients, micronutrients and timestamps for the foods you logged, summarized by meal, plus any food notes.
- Progress: your logged measurements, such as weight, neck, waist and hip entries.
- Exercise: your workouts, step counts and daily calorie burns from a tracker, plus any exercise notes.
The nutrition file is the reason this viewer exists. Because it's summarized by meal, each day is split across several rows: breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. To see a daily total in a spreadsheet, you'd have to group and add up those rows yourself. The viewer does that for you, then gives you a file with one row per day.
The viewer finds each file by its columns rather than its name, and it shows any section it can, even if some columns are missing. Under the results, "What we read" lists every column it recognized and any it didn't.
Privacy
Your data stays on your device
A food diary is personal, so this viewer is built to never see it. Everything happens inside your browser tab.
- Read locally. The ZIP is unzipped and the CSV files are read by code that loads with the page. Your file isn't sent anywhere.
- Nothing saved. The results aren't stored in your browser or on a server. Close the tab and they're gone.
- No account. There's no sign-up and no email to give. Open the page and drop in your file.
- Check it yourself. Open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab and load a file. You'll see no request carrying your data. We count page visits and button clicks, never what's in your file.
FAQ
MyFitnessPal export questions
How do I export my data from MyFitnessPal?
You need MyFitnessPal Premium or Premium+. In the iPhone app, tap More (or your profile icon), then Nutrition, Export, Date Range and Export My Information. In the Android app, tap More, open Progress or Nutrition, tap the Export icon, confirm your email and date range, and tap Export. On the website, click Reports, then Export, pick a date range and click Export. MyFitnessPal emails you a ZIP file with three CSV files.
Can I export MyFitnessPal data without Premium?
Not through the official export. MyFitnessPal's help center says data export is available to Premium and Premium+ subscribers. Free users can still print a report or share their diary with a trainer, doctor or nutritionist.
How do I open a MyFitnessPal export in Excel?
Drop the ZIP into the viewer on this page and click Download daily totals. You get a CSV file with one row per day, saved so that Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets show every character correctly. You can also open the CSV files from the ZIP directly, but the nutrition file has one row per meal instead of one per day.
Why does my export have several rows per day?
MyFitnessPal summarizes the nutrition file by meal, so a day can have separate rows for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The viewer adds those rows up into one total per day.
Is my food diary uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened inside your browser tab by code that is already on the page, and nothing is saved after you close the tab. You can check it yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab and load your file. No request carries your data.
Can I move my MyFitnessPal data to another app?
It depends on the app. Import support varies, so check an app's help pages before you switch. The daily totals file from this viewer is a plain spreadsheet you can keep as a record either way. We compare the main options in our guide to the best MyFitnessPal alternatives.
Does the export include my weight history?
Yes. MyFitnessPal's help center says every export includes your progress history, such as weight, neck, waist and hip entries. The viewer charts your weight from it. If the file doesn't say whether weight is in kilograms or pounds, the viewer guesses from the numbers and lets you switch.
What if the tool can't read my file?
MyFitnessPal changes its export from time to time, so a new layout can trip the viewer up. Email hello@a6digital.com with the file details the tool shows you (the Copy file details button), not the export itself, and we'll fix it.
