Worth it?

Is MyFitnessPal Premium worth it?

It can be, if you'll use several paid features every day. Premium puts the barcode scanner, photo logging, voice logging, exact macro goals and an ad-free diary into one app with one of the largest food databases. If you track daily for a year or more and want all of that in one place, the yearly plan is the sensible way to pay.

It's harder to justify for one feature. Many people upgrade only for the barcode scanner. 9 of the apps in our comparison include a barcode scanner on their free plan, so if that's all you need, switching may cost nothing.

Avoid paying monthly for long. At $19.99 a month, Premium costs more than a full year on the yearly plan by month 5. Monthly billing only makes sense for a short, defined stretch, such as trying the features before committing.

How to pay less for MyFitnessPal

  • Choose yearly billing. $79.99 a year instead of $239.88 for twelve monthly payments.
  • Use the free trial first. First-time Premium users can start with a 7-day free trial. Set a reminder before it renews.
  • Stay on the free plan if it covers you. Manual logging, weight tracking and percentage-based macro goals are still free.
  • Compare other apps. Our calorie tracker apps comparison shows what 16 apps include on their free plans and what each costs over time.

Is MyFitnessPal Premium worth it?

It depends on which paid features you would use every day. If you mainly need the barcode scanner, several apps include one on their free plan. Is there a cheaper way to get MyFitnessPal Premium?

Pay yearly. Twelve monthly payments of $19.99 come to $239.88, against $79.99 for a year. First-time users can also start with a 7-day free trial. The App Store sometimes lists lower introductory prices, so check the offer you see in the app.

What is the difference between MyFitnessPal Premium and Premium+?

Is MyFitnessPal still free?

Yes. The free plan still lets you log food and exercise, track weight, and set calorie and macro goals by percentage. The barcode scanner has been Premium-only since October 1, 2022, and Meal Scan, voice logging, gram-based macro goals, data export and ad-free use also need Premium.
