How it works

Barcode in, calories out.

Three ways to scan, one clear answer. Point your camera, type the number, or upload a photo.

1

Point at the barcode

Hold the barcode inside the frame on your phone or webcam. No camera handy? Type the number or upload a photo instead.

2

It reads the code on your device

Your browser decodes the barcode locally and sends only that number to Open Food Facts. The camera video never leaves your device.

3

See calories and macros

Get the product name with calories, protein, carbs, and fat per 100 grams. Change the amount to match the portion you ate.

Privacy

Your camera never leaves your device

Looking up a barcode needs the internet, so we are clear about what gets sent. The camera runs in your browser and the video stays with you. Only the barcode number goes out, to fetch the nutrition facts.

  • Camera stays local. The barcode is decoded in your browser. The video is never uploaded, stored, or shared.
  • Only the number is sent. To fetch nutrition, the tool sends the decoded barcode to Open Food Facts, nothing more.
  • No account, no log. There is no sign-up and no scan history saved on this page. Results clear when you close the tab.
  • Same database as the app. ProTrack AI looks up packaged foods on Open Food Facts too, so the barcode results match.

From one scan to a habit

Great for a quick check. Better as a daily tracker.

This page is perfect for a one-off lookup. Hitting your goals means logging what you eat every day, and that's the app's job.

FAQ

Barcode scanner questions

What is the free food barcode scanner?

It's a free web tool from ProTrack AI that shows the calories, protein, carbs, and fat of a packaged food from its barcode. Scan with your camera, type the number, or upload a photo. Nutrition comes from the Open Food Facts database.

Is the barcode scanner free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no account, no sign-up, and no scan limit. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install to try it.

Where does the nutrition data come from?

From Open Food Facts, a free and open database of food products maintained by a global community. When you scan a barcode, the tool reads that product's calories and macros per 100 grams, the same source the ProTrack AI app uses for packaged foods.

Do I need to download an app?

No. The scanner runs in your web browser with nothing to install. If you want to save scans to your daily totals and track macros over time, the free ProTrack AI iPhone app does that and scans meals by photo too.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It works in modern mobile and desktop browsers. On a phone it uses the rear camera to scan. If the camera is blocked or unavailable, you can type the barcode number or upload a photo of the barcode instead.

Is my camera video uploaded anywhere?

No. The barcode is read on your device inside the browser. Only the decoded number is sent to Open Food Facts to look up the product. The camera video is never uploaded, stored, or shared, and no account is created.

What if a product isn't found?

Open Food Facts is a community database, so newer or local products can be missing. Try another barcode, or use the ProTrack AI app to estimate the food from a photo instead of a barcode.

How accurate are the calories and macros?

The numbers come from the product data in Open Food Facts, shown per 100 grams by default. Community data can vary and packaging changes over time, so treat the values as estimates for personal tracking, not medical advice.
