US prices, free plans and features of 16 calorie tracker apps, checked October 23, 2026
Monthly shows ProTrack AI's weekly price, its only recurring plan. Ratings are from the US App Store (Samsung Health's is from its iPhone app). Hover over a cell, or open "What's free, what's paid" on an app's card above, to see the detail behind each value.
Read the fine print
"Free" doesn't mean the same thing in every app
Most calorie trackers say they're free to download. What you can do without paying varies a lot, so check the feature you'll use every day, not just the "Free" label.
Free plan, paid scanner. MyFitnessPal moved its barcode scanner to Premium in October 2022, and Lose It! is moving its scanner to Premium now. If you log mostly packaged food, that changes the price.
Free with ads. MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, Cronometer and Yazio show ads on the free plan and remove them when you pay.
Free AI, with a daily limit. SnapCalorie gives 3 free AI logs a day, PlateLens gives a daily allowance it doesn't put a number on, and MyNetDiary gives a limited number of free Meal Scans. Unlimited AI logging is paid.
Free to try only. MacroFactor, Cal AI and ProTrack AI have no free plan you can keep using: after a trial or a few free scans, logging needs a paid plan. MacroFactor says it will never have a free version.
Free in some countries only. Noom's free food logging is available in the US only; elsewhere, logging food needs a paid plan.
Prices on the App Store also move around. Many apps show discounted introductory offers or test different prices, so the price you see in the app may be lower than the standard price in this table. We note those offers on each app's card.
Method
How we collected and checked the data
We checked each app's US App Store listing and the vendor's own pricing page and help center on October 23, 2026. Each app's card links to the pages we used. Reviews and other comparison sites were used only as leads, never as the source of a value.
Prices are standard US prices in US dollars, before tax. When the App Store lists several prices for the same plan, we use the price the vendor publishes and note the others.
"Free" means you can use the feature without paying, with no time limit. "Limited free" means a few free uses, then a paid plan.
"Not stated" means the vendor doesn't document it. We don't guess.
Total cost for the period you choose: monthly plans are charged every month, a yearly plan is charged in full for each year you start, and a one-time purchase is charged once. Free trials and introductory discounts are not included.
Ratings are from the US App Store on the day we checked.

Which calorie tracker apps have a lifetime purchase?
On this page: ProTrack AI ($39.99), MyNetDiary ($179.99), Lose It! ($299.99). Lifetime prices are one-time payments with no renewal. The others sell subscriptions only.
What is the cheapest calorie tracker app?
13 of the 16 apps on this page have a free plan you can keep using, so the cheapest option is $0. Of the paid plans, PlateLens has the lowest 12-month price at $34.99. If you plan to track for more than a year, a one-time purchase can cost less: ProTrack AI is $39.99 once. Set how long you'll track in the comparison above to see the total for each app.
Which calorie tracker has a free barcode scanner?
On this page: Cronometer, MyNetDiary, FatSecret, Foodnoms, Yazio, Lifesum, Carb Manager, PlateLens and Samsung Health. MyFitnessPal moved its barcode scanner to Premium in October 2022, and Lose It! is moving its scanner to Premium too.
Is MyFitnessPal still free?
Yes. MyFitnessPal's free plan still lets you log food, exercise and weight. The barcode scanner, photo logging, gram-based macro goals, data export and ad-free use need Premium, which costs $19.99/mo · $79.99/yr in the US.
Is MyFitnessPal Premium worth it?
It depends on how many of its paid features you would use. Premium costs $19.99/mo · $79.99/yr. If you mainly want the barcode scanner, 9 apps on this page include one on their free plan. Our MyFitnessPal Premium cost calculator shows your total for the months you plan to track and which apps include the features you need for free.
Is Cronometer free?
Yes. Cronometer's free Basic plan has no time limit and includes the barcode scanner, macro targets, vitamins and minerals, and data export, with ads. Cronometer Gold removes ads and adds photo and voice logging for $10.99/mo · $59.99/yr.
Which calorie tracker apps work offline?
Full offline logging is documented for MyNetDiary and ProTrack AI. MyFitnessPal, MacroFactor and Foodnoms work partly offline, for example with foods you have logged before. Most other apps don't say, and Lifesum says it needs a connection.
Which calorie trackers don't need an account?
On this page: MyNetDiary, Foodnoms, Yazio, Carb Manager and ProTrack AI. The other apps either require an account or don't say.
Is there a calorie tracker with no AI?
Every app on this page now offers some form of AI photo logging, but in most of them it's an optional paid extra and you can log food by hand or with a barcode on the free plan. If you want an app that keeps logging simple, see our guide to simple calorie tracker apps with no AI.
How were these prices checked?
We checked each app's US App Store listing and the vendor's own pricing and help pages on October 23, 2026. Prices are standard US prices in US dollars. The App Store often shows discounted introductory offers, so where the vendor publishes a standard price we use it and note the offers. Where a vendor doesn't document a feature, the table says "Not stated" instead of guessing.
Prices and features change. Check the App Store before you subscribe. ProTrack AI is not affiliated with the other apps on this page.
